Orient Paper is founded with a single paper machine at Brajrajnagar, Odisha

1946

NEI (formerly National Bearing Co.) is established as a pioneer in bearings

1947

Neosym (formerly Indian Smelting & Refining Co) is acquired

1952

Rukmani Birla establishes The Modern High School for Girls, Kolkata

1954

Orient Fans (formerly Calcutta Electrical Manufacturing Company) is acquired

1955

BM Birla establishes BIT (Birla Institute of Technology), Mesra

1956

HIL (formerly Hyderabad Industries), a single fibre cement sheet plant is acquired

1964

BM Birla establishes the Birla Institute of Scientific Research (BISR)

1965

Orient Paper commences production at Amlai, Madhya Pradesh

1966

GMMCO (formerly Blackwood Hodge Equipment) is acquired

BM Birla establishes The Calcutta Medical Research Institute

Orient Cement is founded

BM Birla Science Centre, Hyderabad is established
